"Follow the Women: Freeing Dialogue," Distinguished Faculty Lecture 2018

"Follow the Women: Freeing Dialogue" is the title of the GTU's 2018 Distinguished Faculty Lecture. This year's featured speaker will be Dr. Marianne Farina, CSC, professor of philosophy and theology at Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology. Her lecture will focus on how women’s voices challenge and reinterpret our understanding of interreligious dialogue. The perspectives that emerge have far-reaching implications for the theology and practice of dialogue. A response will be offered by Dr. Rita Sherma, director of the Center for Dharma Studies.

WSR Cafe Series: Ashley Bacchi, "Women, Prophesy & Hellenistic Judaism"

Please join the Women's Studies in Religion for another exciting installment of our Cafe Series! GTU Alumna and WSR Certificate graduate Ashley Bacchi will present on Women, Prophecy and Hellenistic Judaism. This conversation will explore women, power, and prophecy in the Hellenistic world and how modern preconceptions of gender norms are challenged in Hellenistic Jewish texts. Exploring the Greek Sibyl as a Jewish pseudonym considers the impact of a female prophetic voice in a male dominated prophetic tradition.

International Women's Day Celebration: Advancements, Challenges and International Cooperation

The International House at UC Berkeley hosts this celebration and panel discussion focusing on women’s accomplishments as well as barriers to gender equality, moderated by Professor Minoo Moallem, UC Berkeley Gender & Women’s Studies Department. Panelists include Nathalie Delrue-McGuire, Consul General of Belgium; Cassie Doyle, Consul General of Canada; Ana Valenzuela, Consul General of El Salvador and Hilde Skorpen, Consul General of Norway.
