Inside the Latter-day Saints Oakland Temple

Join the GTU community for this opportunity to learn about and then visit a Mormon temple. The Oakland Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is open to the public for the first time in over half a century. Recently renovated, the temple, in which sacred ordinances are performed, will be open to the public until May 31st.

"Angelology" Panel at Berkeley Rep

In conjunction with Berkeley Rep's presentation of Tony Kushner's groundbreaking play Angels in America, the GTU is cohosting "Angelology: A Live Panel on Millenarianism" on Monday, May 14 at 6:30pm in Berkeley Rep’s Peet’s Theatre. The panel will explore the questions “Why do angels appear to people? What forecasts the end of the world?” through Jewish and Mormon lenses.

Sunstone West 2013

Sunstone West is a symposium sponsored by Sunstone Magazine, a publication dedicated to Mormon experience, scholarship, issues, and art.

All sessions will be held at Pacific School of Religion, 1798 Scenic Avenue, Berkeley. One session will be dedicated to Mormon Studies at the GTU and the Academy. Arthur Holder (GTU), doctoral student Michael Reed, and Sheila Taylor (GTU Ph.D. '11) are plenary speakers with Robert Rees (GTU) moderating. Taylor and Rees are featured speakers throughout the symposium.

God in the White House: Religion and the 2012 Election

We will explore the Christian, Mormon, Muslim and Jewish perspectives on the upcoming election and the role of religion in American politics, with attention to recent discussions around the separation of Church and State, on religious freedom and its role in public policy, and U.S. foreign policy.
