Illustrated Lecture with Carol Bier

The Hillside Club (2286 Cedar Street, Berkeley) is hosting this illustrated lecture by CIS Visiting Scholar Carol Bier, curator of the exhibition, Reverberating Echoes: Contemporary Art Inspired by Traditional Islamic Art, on display at the Doug Adams Gallery from January 31-May 26, 2017.  This lecture is co-sponsored by the Center for Islamic Studies and the Hillside Club.

The Hermitage of Landscape: Works by Nicholas Coley

The Hermitage of Landscape, the opening exhibit at the NEW Doug Adams Gallery (2465 LeConte Ave., Berkeley) will feature the luminous landscape paintings of Bay Area artist Nicholas Coley. Painting en plein aire, Coley experiments with light and shape, producing images that range from realism to abstraction. Familiar Bay Area sites – Mt. Tam, Baker Beach, Tennessee Valley, the Berkeley Hills – take on other-wordly qualities.

The exhibition runs from August 30 to December 9.
