CIS is delighted to share that this month’s Islamic Studies @ GTU presentations will be led by Dr. Munir Jiwa and Dr. Mahjabeen Dhala on the topic of Covid-19 and Precarious Life.

The War on Terror Film Festival is a month-long, public virtual event featuring 20 award-winning films made over the last 20 years that document abuses, highlight crimes, and satirize absurdities of the “war on terror. 

From the Oscar-winning “Citizenfour” and “Taxi to the Dark Side” to the Oscar-nominated “Dirty Wars” and the highly-acclaimed “The Mauritanian,” “Four Lions,” “Fahrenheit 9/11” and “The Feeling of Being Watched,” these films shine a spotlight on the wars on Afghanistan and Iraq, indefinite detention at Guantánamo Bay prison, torture and surveillance.

In the 20 years since 9/11, US Muslims have been subjected to harassment, violence & surveillance. Learn about these experiences and their implications in this event to launch a new survey on #Islamophobia.

This event looks back at the 20 years post-9/11, as well as future implications. CIS Director Munir Jiwa participated in this event.

This online event is a welcome gathering for all students, visiting scholars, and faculty in Islamic Studies as we kick off the Fall 2021 semester.
