Beyond Bashing: A Faith Response to End Anti-LGBT Violence

Hate crimes based on sexual orientation account for 20% of all hate crimes reported to the FBI in recent years and violence against the transgender community continues at an appalling rate as well. We know that anti-gay religious voices contribute to creating a climate that allows these terrifying crimes to continue at high rates. Mudd Building, Pacific School of Religion, 1798 Scenic Avenue, Berkeley

The theme of this year’s summit is Creating Space for Social Justice. Securing human dignity for others and ourselves is not just a laudable goal, but a necessary part of our expression of faith. Our faith communities must be educated and inspired to embrace the inclusion and affirmation of our transgender, queer, intersex, transsexual and gender non-conforming members. This is the rallying call for the CLGS Transgender Religious Leaders Summit 2012.
