The GTU is saddened to learn of the death of the Rev. Dr. Joseph D. Driskill. Joe earned his PhD from the GTU in 1995, with a dissertation supervised by Professor Elizabeth Liebert that fused psychological and theological anthropologies to serve the purposes of pastoral counseling and spiritual direction.
Joe served for two decades as Professor of Christian Spirituality at the Pacific School of Religion and as Dean of the Disciples Seminary Foundation in Berkeley. As a member of the GTU’s Core Doctoral Faculty, he was a cherished colleague and a mentor to a generation of students in Christian Spirituality at the GTU. An ordained minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Joe also served congregations in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and The United Church of Canada. Additionally, Joe served as president of the Society of Christian Spirituality in 2013. He is survived by his wife Leslie Bryant. The GTU mourns his passing.
